Book lovers can dive into a great read on the go thanks to a range of ebooks now available from Hammersmith & Fulham’s libraries.

The virtual collection of 1,500 new titles, which are free to download for library members, launched recently and are already proving very popular.

The many stories on offer, including best sellers from the likes of Hilary Mantel, Stieg Larsson and Cecilia Ahern, as well as popular children’s authors David Walliams and Michael Morpurgo, can all be downloaded to iPads, tablets and smartphones.

“I enjoy being able to download and read books from wherever I am, during my commute or while sat on the sofa at home,” said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents Services.

“I read them on the tube and a good book certainly makes a welcome break from reading cabinet papers. This is a much-needed modernisation of the library service, which we hope will be welcomed by existing members and will attract new members too.”

On offer through the service are titles including popular modern fiction such as George RR Martin’s novels which inspired the cult television series, Game of Thrones to classic literature from Shakespeare, Thomas Hardy and Jane Austen – ideal for students. There’s a selection of children’s stories and even self-help books.

The new ebook titles can be downloaded with no reservation charges and no overdue charges. Titles are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all you need is a device with an internet connection and your library membership details to download them.

Several users can even access one title at the same time, so there is no having to wait for it to be returned – perfect for reading groups.
