Can Sean Goss break into the Hoops squad?

He was tipped to be the next Michael Carrick after impressing at Manchester United – despite never getting a chance in the first team.

Now, Sean Goss is struggling to break into the matchday squad at QPR following his £500,000 January move.

The 22-year-old clearly has the skills. Check out his free-kick in training this week but the bad news for Goss is that Ian Holloway has a plethora of midfield options in Luke Freeman, Josh Scowen and Massimo Luongo who have (so far) been his go-to guys this season.

Goss is a versatile midfielder who has an impressive passing range, can score goals and covers defensively, too. The complete midfielder. Yet it is still not enough to break into the Hoops line-up.

United clearly have high hopes for the former Exeter player after including a buy-back clause when they sold him to Rangers. Thoughts of the Paul Pogba saga come to mind.

He may not have the flamboyant hair of the Frenchman but he seems to be moving in the same circles. A flick through his Instagram reveals photos with world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua cuddling a baby tiger and even the handy Diego Maradona.

Let’s hope to see him on the back pages soon. Meanwhile the Hoops’ players are peppered all over the globe during the October international break this week.

Conor Washington will be playing against Norway on Sunday for Northern Ireland in a World Cup qualifier after a brief appearance in the 3-1 defeat to Germany in Belfast.

Luongo will have his fingers and toes crossed that Australia can overcome Syria to go into the final qualifying round for the World Cup.

Elsewhere, Pawel Wszolek is representing Poland in their Sunday fixture against Montenegro while Guinea’s Idrissa Sylla face Tunisia on Saturday and Kazenga LuaLua and Yeni Ngbakoto are with Congo DR in Libya.
