West London’s largest shopping centre, Westfield London has launched a series of community grants.

Through the scheme, Westfield will help support White City groups with vital project funding and forms part of the mall’s expansion plans.

Up to 20 community initiatives will be selected for support this year, and a further 20 in 2017.

The target is to make a difference to local neighbourhoods in the borough.

On the awarding panel: representatives of the council; small businesses; organisations and Westfield London. The panel will meet twice a year to decide which bids to support.

Duncan Bower, director of development at Westfield, said: “We want to make sure that the Westfield success is felt as widely as possible in the White City area.

“Westfield has a good track record in working with local organisations and the establishment of the grants panel will build on this.”

Bids from White City groups should either address innovative approaches to employment and training, opportunities for young people aged 16-24 or support for people with disabilities or health problems.

Applicants must be based in Hammersmith & Fulham, or Kensington and Chelsea, and will have to submit a detailed breakdown of how the money will be spent and the objectives.

Panel member Steven Cotton, employer engagement manager for Resurgo’s Spear programme, said: “We know there is a huge amount of innate local talent. Supporting projects that serve local need will bring tangible benefits to the area.”

Fellow panel member Emma Morgan, manager at Big Local, added: “I believe the community grants panel will play an important part in investing in our vibrant and diverse local community.

“We look forward to working with local organisations as they submit bids.”
