William Morris Society Museum
26 Upper Mall, W6 9TA
William Morris (1834-96) was one of the pioneers of the British arts and crafts movement, championing craftmanship over mass-produced industrialism. He was also a writer, typographer and activist, who helped launch the socialist movement in this country.
Kelmscott House in Hammersmith was Morris's home from 1878-96 and is close to the premises of his Kelmscott Press, where he published books detailing his ideas.
The house itself is a private home but the basement and the coach house serve as headquarters for the William Morris Society. They are open to the public on Thursdays and Saturdays from 2-5pm, or by prior arrangement, and feature original arts, textiles and printing press. The entrance is down the steps leading from the driveway.
The library is available for meeting hire.
