News for schools - Summer programme 2008

This term we offer a regular changing programme of sessions based on history at the palace. All relate to subjects in the National Curriculum. KS 1 and 2.

Sessions available Tuesday to Friday.

Romans – What is Archaeology? 22nd April – 9th May
Handle real Roman objects and wear Roman costume (try the helmet) Look at Roman life, trade and palace finds. 

Tudors  13th May – 13th June 
Compare rich and poor life, use the market stall; wear costume, handle resources. Try on the costume of Henry VII beside his portrait. Listen to Tudor stories of palace ghosts and bishops and of Queen Elizabeth I’s visits.

NEW More magnificent Tudor costumes will be introduced during the term. Your sessions will include either Henry VII or Elizabeth I and Tudor bishops with portraits. More details when booking.  

Creepie Crawlies  Tuesdays and Thursdays 13th May –13th June
Use the gardens to look for insects. Collect them with pooters, record your finds. A very popular session, book early!

Victorians Rich and poor children  17th June – July 11th 
Learn at a local board school or from a governess at the palace; work or live in a big country house. Compare life then and now. Celebrate Victoria’s Jubilee; handle objects, wear costume.
  
Toys 17th June – July 11th 
Compare lovely old toys, as used by children in the past, with modern versions. How did toys work before batteries? What toys were used in other parts of the world? A wonderful handling session enjoyed by all. Reception, KS 1 & 2.
