Education Programme for school year 2011 - 2012

National Curriculum Topics based on palace history and using a wonderful costume collection, for KS 1 – 2 - 3; also a programme for early learning.

Romans : archaeology, river transport, domestic life on the palace site. Use the handling collection of real and replica objects, all wear costume - try the soldiers’  helmet.

Tudors: Compare rich and poor life, use the market stall or have a banquet; wear costume, handle objects. Try the costume of Henry V11, Queen Elizabeth or Katherine of Aragon.

Victorians: Children learning and living in Victorian times, with comparison to the present day. With role play re-enact stories of the bishops and their families, in the palace and the chapel; wear costume and handle objects.

Children in Wartime London:   Air raids, rations, evacuation – experience world war II in London and the palace. A large handling collection and costume for all.

Creepie crawlies: Use the gardens to look for insects. Collect them with pooters, record your finds. A very popular session, book early!

Toys and stories of life in the palace. Singing, hats and toys. What is a toy? Compare old and new toys using a handling collection.
