We contributed to funding the Shepherds Bush Healthy Living Centre, actively supporting health promotion in one of the most deprived areas of the Borough.
Working with the West London Health Promotion Agency, we identified a series of indicators including air and water quality; people using local authority leisure centres; dental recordsfor 12 year-olds; road accidents; low birth weight rates; screening uptake and the percentage of the population registered with a GP.
By working with Hammersmith & Fulham Action for Disability (HAFAD), we are committed to take positive steps to reduce barriers to quality of life facing our disabled neighbours. We hope that our experience with HAFAD will lead us to network with other groups interacting with healthcare services and we will continue to seek ways to make our society more inclusive. Accessibility is a key issue in this. Many disabled people possess skills and abilities that cannot be fully utilised because transport and access facilities are inadequate. This tends to isolate disabled people from the broader community and the quality of their life suffers; jobs and chances for recreation are reduced. The Council provides certain services and some buses now offer better access to the disabled. However, other things could be improved, such as the number of pavement ramps installed, the number of parking spaces for the disabled; the number of shops that might provide a delivery service using a 'Shopping List' agreed with disabled customers. We also recognise that the response of the wider community is important, too.
