Hammersmith and Fulham Local Agenda 21 recently proposed that the Borough Council should appoint a Pedestrians Officer. This officer would liaise with organisations like Living Streets and would have a duty of care of pedestrian issues in the Borough.
Living Streets is a non-profit making organisation with the aim of improving the facilities for pedestrians and local communities in our towns and cities.
The Hammersmith and Fulham Pedestrians Association publishes an occasional newsletter which is distributed to the Borough's Living Streets members as well as to libraries and the Borough Information Centre. It works with other locally-based organisations such as the London Cycling Campaign to campaign for better facilities for non-car-users. It works within the framework of Local Agenda 21 in the Borough.
Information for pedestrians, pavement damage notification forms, etc. are available from the Information Centre, 20 Hammersmith Broadway Centre, W6 (open Monday to Friday).
There is currently a proposal for changes to the junction at the top end of Fulham Palace Road where it joins the Broadway south side, where large amounts of traffic flow past under the flyover. It is proposed to alter the flow so that there is more time for pedestrians to cross from FPR to the Broadway Centre. There are even proposals (by the Architectural Foundation) to eventually make the under-flyover area traffic-free.
