Background to Children's Voice
The Children's Fund Participation worker established a 'Children and Young People Planning Group' in November 03. Children &Young People from local Children's Fund projects were invited. The group began to meet twice a month at the Masbro Centre on Friday evenings to become involved in the planning, design and content of the first Children's Fund website. Meetings were planned in the form of workshops with fun activities in between.

The group developed to 14 members and in Jan 04 called themselves 'Children's Voice'. The members produced a banner and a small pull out leaflet using comments and pictures about issues that were important to them.

Children's Voice were invited to the first Children's Fund Conference on 27th January 04. This involved the members doing a presentation about the group, and individuals speaking about the importance of listening to Children and Young People.

During 2004 Children's Voice met every month working on the development of this Children's Fund website with digital:works - a specialist web design company. Members worked on the update of the website, producing artwork, writing and talking about what was important to them.

In December the group organised the first ever 'Children's Fund Party'! Children's Voice worked alongside the CF team to plan out the launch party for the CF website (www.childrensvoice.org.uk). This event took place on the 16th December at the Irish Centre. The event was very successful with over 70 children & young people attending with parents, carers and staff from the local projects.

Development of Children's Voice
'Children's Voice' is now developing to expand and involve more children and young people to get representation from all of the Children's Fund projects in Hammersmith & Fulham. This should give more children and young people the chance to be involved and have a voice!

Children can also use our 'Interactive Questionnaire'. Our participation worker, Mary Page is using this to find out what children and young people think about different services and projects in Hammersmith.

This gives children a chance to say what they think!

Later in the year Mary will be looking to recruit children and young people, to become 'Children's Fund advisors', to help us find out what makes a good project for children.

If you would like to find out about any of this work please contact Mary Page.
