About
the Cecil French Bequest Web Gallery
The
Cecil French Bequest is a collection of fifty-three pictures
by late 19thc and early 20th century British artists that
was presented to the Metropolitan Borough of Fulham (now incorporated
in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham) in the early
1950s.
The
web gallery of the Cecil French Bequest is based on the catalogue
written in 1997 by the late David Rodgers. David Rodgers hoped
to be able to check and if necessary amend the catalogue before
it was published online, but his untimely death prevented
this. Comments on the gallery and suggested amendments would
be welcomed.
A
PDF file of the catalogue is available for download (150k)
The
Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art generously made
grants towards the cataloguing and professional photography
of the Bequest, and their assistance is gratefully acknowledged.
This
website was designed and created by the Hammersmith &
Fulham council online
information team.

of the pictures from the Bequest are on display at Leighton
