ALBERT MOORE
1841-1893

A naked young woman, swimming on her back with her head, shoulders and right knee above the surface. Impressionistic foliage in right foreground. An inscription on the backboard, written by Alfred Lys Baldry, reads "Moore showed me this when it was just finished and told me that he did it from memory of something he had seen - a girl bathing or swimming under Hammersmith Bridge. The effect of the figure in the water appealed to him as worthy of recording."
