GEORGE CLAUSEN, R.A., R.W.S.
1852-1944
Clausen
was born in London and studied at South Kensington and in
Paris where he was strongly influenced by Bastien-Lepage.
He painted rural life, landscape and portraits. A founder
member of the New English Art Club in 1886 he nevertheless
retained contact with the Royal Academy being elected RA and
Professor of Painting to the RA Schools in 1908. He was knighted
in 1927.
