filming in Hammersmith and Fulham

Your guide to filming in Hammersmith & Fulham

We fully support production companies who wish to film here. However, you need to apply for permission first. Our Film Location Officer, Janet Potter is on hand to lead you through the process. With her considerable local knowledge and technical expertise she can help find you the best locations and keep your shoot running smoothly.

Please contact Janet Potter at: Film Office, Room 9, Town Hall, King Street, London W6 9JU; tel: 020 8753 2171; fax: 020 8753 2247.

The first step.

If you wish to film in Hammersmith & Fulham, you need to complete an Application to Film form and obtain a licence. You can fill in the form online or download a pdf version and send it to us.

Application to Film (online form)

Janet can advise on any other information we might need, such as plans showing the filming location.

The fee you will be charged will depend on the size, disruption and duration of the production.

We expect all film-makers shooting in the borough to follow the Film London's code of practice. Follow the link to see these in more detail.

Filming on the street/highways

You do not need a licence to film in the street, but please do let us know as a matter of courtesy. We often field calls from the public interested in or worried by cameras on their street and it makes life a lot simpler for you and us if we can answer their questions.

You should notify Janet Potter by completing an Application to Film form and returning it at least 48 hours beforehand.

If you are likely to be using cranes, tracks etc you must give us at least 7 days notice.

It is not normally necessary for you to inform the police as well. We can normally recommend parking and crew facilities, suspend parking bays or even possibly close roads depending on location and if plenty of notice is given.

Please note that you should not deposit equipment on the street or interfere with street furniture unless this is cleared with the Council in advance. You should also be prepared to clear the public highway if requested to do so by the Police or council representative. We also request that you don't block public footpaths with vehicles.

Small crews of under 10 will usually be given the go ahead to use pavements to film as long as they are not obstructing other pedestrians or causing any other health and safety hazard.

Larger crew using tracks, genie booms, cranes, cherry pickers must apply to film on the street with at least 8 days notice. If a Traffic Management Order is required for a partial road or pavement closure or parking on a single yellow line there will be a cost of £320 which must be paid at least 7 days in advance.

Parking suspensions

All roads in Hammersmith & Fulham are controlled parking, which means all bays are shared by resident permit holders and visitors who pay and display on all street, for short shoots this normally suffices.

However, if you are likely to be there for more than a day you should complete a Parking Bay Suspension form (PDF). This needs to be completed and returned at least eight days in advance with the fee of £25.00 per suspended bay, plus an administration fee of £55.00 for each location. Usually the maximum allowed is 6 bays. If the suspension of bays is longer than 30 metres or for more than 3 days then 15 days notice is needed.

Complete the Parking Bay Suspension form and fax to Parking Control - fax: 020 8753 3267 with a list of trucks. Make sure they have received it by ringing them on 020 8753 3288.

For small crews using people carriers or cars, parking bays cannot be suspended. It is possible to pay and display these vehicles for the whole day for £1.60 per hours and the ticket can last for the whole day.

Please note that you should not deposit traffic cones, scaffolding or anything onto the carriageway to reserve parking place(s).
