Street cleaning programme

The street sweeping operation is organised on a four shift basis, ensuring that the borough has a 24 hour coverage.

4.00am - 11.30am Shift: 

This shift is responsible for the cleansing of each of the Borough’s main highways including the TFL roads; Talgarth Road, Great West Road and the Westway. They are also responsible for emptying all of the borough’s litter bins on main roads once a day. This shift operates with three Schmidt Swingos and two Scarab Merlins. 

6.30am - 2.00pm Shift:

This shift is the largest of the four shifts and is responsible for the cleansing of all the residential roads in the Borough. The borough is divided into three areas North, Central and South with each area having it’s own supervisor. Our Neighbourhood Sweepers work on this shift and are assigned to a local area where they are responsible for sweeping the streets a minimum of once each week. Each neighbourhood sweeper will clean approximately 4km of streets each day. 

10.00am - 6.00pm Shift: 

Operatives on this shift are responsible for the cleansing of the borough’s main shopping areas and high-density pedestrian areas continuously throughout the shift. These areas are swept manually and are supported by two Refuse Compaction vehicles, which clear the borough of fly-tips and undertake additional litter-bin emptying if required. 

7.00pm – 2.00am Shift: 

This shift is responsible for the cleansing of the three town centres, Fulham Broadway, Hammersmith Broadway and Shepherds Bush Green.
