  • If graffiti is on A40 underpass telephone 020 8939 9917

Graffiti is a form of vandalism. It detracts from the environment and can cause offence to Borough residents, consequently several highway structures are cleaned twice a month. These are:-

  • The subways at Hammersmith Broadway
  • The Du Cane Road footbridge
  • The Westway subway at Wood Lane

Each structure is triple coated with graffiti-protection paint, enabling all graffiti and paint spills to be removed quickly via the use of a cleaning agent. Other Council structures are cleaned once a month.

Anti-graffiti measures help to make a significant environmental improvement.

Engineers check sites to monitor the level of graffiti. Offensive words or drawings are removed within six hours. All other graffiti is removed by the Council's appointed term contractor over the weekend. The treated site is examined again on the following Monday to ensure that cleaning has been conducted to a satisfactory standard.

Paint Spillages.

If a paint spillage on the highway is reported the engineer will conduct an on-site inspection to determine the seriousness of the spillage, and whether it is visually unpleasant. If it is necessary to remove the paint, this is carried out using high-pressure water and detergent.
