Fly posting

Fly posting What is fly-posting?

Fly-posting is the illegal display of advertising material and is often found strapped to lampposts or pasted on buildings and street furniture, making the local neighbourhood look untidy.

There are three types of fly-posting:

  • photocopied adverts for local events such as car boot sales
  • large colour posters advertising record releases and concert dates for musicians
  • posters displayed by political organisations or pressure groups

Incidents of fly posting are investigated by street scene enforcement who take enforcement action including prosecution wherever possible. Removal of the posters is undertaken by either the street scene enforcement team or the street cleansing team – depending on the location, height and circumstances of the postings.

Report Fly-posting to us

You can report fly-posting to our hotline on 020 8753 1100 or email cleaner.greener@lbhf.gov.uk

We will need to know:

• Where the fly-posting is
• The type of fly-posting (plastic boards attached to a lamp-post or pasted posters)
• What is being advertised (if known)

If you witnessed the fly-posting being put up, the following information will help officers track down the culprit and take enforcement action against them. If caught in the act, an offender could receive a £75.00 fine!

• A description of the person seen erecting the fly-posting
• The details of any vehicles used
• The time the fly-posting was erected
• If it was witnessed by anybody else and if so, their details
