Disposal of your unwanted vehicle
If you have a vehicle you no longer require and would like it to be disposed of, the Council offers a free removal and disposal service
You must be able to show the vehicle is your property by providing a valid vehicle registration document (V5C)* and will also need to complete a vehicle removal authorisation form (pdf). Alternatively, take your V5C, the car keys and some identification to the Environment Services Department reception on the 3rd floor of the Town Hall Extension. Once there, fill in a surrender form and hand it in with your V5C and keys.
* Please be aware that the old style V5 vehicle registration document is no longer valid, as this has been replaced with the V5C document by the Department of Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
Please note that Section 9 of your Vehicle Registration Document (V5C) must legally be completed, signed and returned to The Department of Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Swansea, SA99 1BD by the registered keeper, upon transfer to the dismantler. We cannot return it to the DVLA on your behalf. Please also be aware that failure to sign and return this may result in you being fined by the DVLA for unpaid tax duties.
The vehicle becomes the responsibility of the Council once the correct paperwork is received by the Council. Until that time it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure that it is legally parked, by displaying a permit or a pay and display ticket, if it is on the public highway. We normally remove vehicles within 3 working days of the documents being received in our office. Please ensure that there are no personal belongings in the car (including any tax disc or permit requiring a refund or exchange) before you hand over the keys and the V5C. The vehicle will be removed without further contact, unless there is a query, and will be destroyed immediately.
