Abandoned Vehicles

Reporting abandoned cars

Abandoned VehiclesAbandoned vehicles take up precious parking spaces and can sometimes be dangerous. The Local Authority has a duty to deal with them.

It helps the Borough if residents report vehicles that they believe have been abandoned, so that we can deal with them as quickly as possible. If you think a vehicle has been abandoned in your street, make a note of the main details and either phone, fax or e-mail the Parking Services Office.

The more information provided about the location, registration, make, colour, the better. Vehicles which are displaying a current tax disc and/or Hammersmith & Fulham parking permit cannot be regarded as abandoned. However, they can still be investigated if they are in a very poor or dangerous condition, such as having severe accident damage, burnt out or badly vandalised.

How they are dealt with

Once we receive a report, a site visit is carried out and the vehicle is assessed by our officers.   If the vehicle is considered to be abandoned a 24 hour notice is fixed to it which gives the owner time to claim it.   If the vehicle is not claimed during that period it will be removed and destroyed.

In some cases, dictated by the condition of the vehicle, a 7 day notice may be sent to the owner requiring them to remove it or contact us.
