Street parties and fetes

Street parties and fetes

Organising a street party or fete in Hammersmith & Fulham.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations will take place over the extended weekend of June 2-5. The London 2012 Olympic Games take place from July 27 through to August 12.

If you are thinking about organising a small event over the Queen's Diamond Jubilee weekend, we're sorry, but the cut-off date for applications has now passed.

If you are thinking of holding a street party to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics, the application cut-off date is Friday June 29, 2012. All you need to do is fill in one simple form. The council has swept away the previous time consuming forms to make it easier to get events up and running.

What sort of events does this apply to?

The main differences between a small street party or fete and larger public events are listed below:

Street parties and fetes:

Larger public events:

For residents/neighbours only

Anyone can attend

Publicity only to residents

External publicity (such as in newspapers)

No licences normally necessary if music incidental and no selling is involved

(1) Licence usually needed
(2) Insurance needed

No formal risk assessment needed

Risk assessment usually needed

Self-organised

Professional/skilled organisers

Organising small, private street parties and fetes is very simple and generally does not include activities that need a licence, such as selling alcohol or providing certain types of entertainment.

If you want to have a pay bar or intend to provide entertainment to the wider public, or charge to raise money for your event, you will need a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) which will allow you to carry out licensable activities for a maximum of 96 hours for a maximum of 499 people and costs £21.

Larger public events attracting more people may require an application for a Premises Licence.

If you would like to hold a larger public event, please contact the Licensing Team by submitting a service request electronically via the LBHF website or by phoning: 020 8753 1081, by faxing: 020 8753 3922 or by writing to: London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, Licensing Service, 6th Floor, Town Hall, King Street, London W6 9JU. An email can also be sent to Licensing@lbhf.gov.uk.
