A boards and small advertising boards on the public highway

Removal or licencing of A-boards on the public highway

A-boards (folding shop boards) and small advertising boards tied to railings or street furniture cause an obstruction on the pavement.

A-Boards are not allowed on the pavement, and advertising boards are not allowed on railings, posts or street furniture.
A boards on pavement
Any obstruction on the pavement is an offence under legislation, and Street Scene Enforcement can remove and issue a penalty notice.

A-boards are legal on private forecourts and areas of private land in general.

Contact the Street Scene Enforcement Team who will visit and give notice for items to be removed.

  • Perpetrators are usually given one day to remove the items but in some cases where there are large items they may be given longer, this is at the discretion of the street Scene Enforcement  Officer.
  • If the items are not removed within the given time they will be removed by Street Scene Enforcement Officers and disposed of.

To report a street scene issue call us on the Cleaner Greener hotline 020 8753 1100 or email on cleaner.greener@lbhf.gov.uk
