Highway Surveys

Asset Inventory Survey

We maintain an inventory of the highway assets along 1,300 km of London’s Principal Road Network (which does not include Red Routes). The inventory features eight different types of asset: lamp columns, posts, traffic signs, illuminated bollards, traffic signals, gullies, trees and street furniture (containing 21 sub-categories of highway asset).

Each year every asset is inspected and its location and condition is recorded. We collect this data across all 33 London authorities on behalf of Transport for London who funds the project. Each authority receives an update of the assets in its area. The authorities are also told immediately about assets, such as faulty lamp columns, which may pose a risk to road and footway users.

ROAD2000 Survey

This is a survey of the condition of London’s Principal Road Network, which measures the visual condition, texture and skid resistance of the roads. Like the Asset Inventory Survey, ROAD2000 is funded by Transport for London and we are acting as the lead borough in collecting data across all 33 London authorities. The data is used to produce an index of the worst roads in each borough to help the authorities to plan maintenance.
