How to apply for a parking bay suspension

If you are moving home, expecting a delivery, or need access to a specific set of parking bays for another reason, such as tree pruning, you can apply for a parking bay suspension.

Costs

£35 per bay space (i.e. 5 metres) per day.

You can pay for your parking suspension by credit or debit card by submitting your card details on the application form or over the phone. Please note: with effect from 16/11/10, all payments made by credit card are subject to a 1.25% card handling fee. Payments made by debit card will not attract a handling fee.

With effect from 01/01/11, there is a fee of £35 for each amendment or cancellation to an existing parking suspension. Amendments and cancellations to existing parking suspensions will not be processed until this fee is paid.

If you wish to pay in person, you may do so at the Pay and Park office (on the 1st Floor, Hammersmith Town Hall Extension) by cheque or credit or debit card. In all cases, payment must be received before the notice period for the size and duration of your request (see 'Notice periods' below for further information).

Applying

To apply, you will need to complete an application form.  These are available from the Hammersmith Town Hall, or you can ask us to fax you a form by calling (020) 7371 5678. Forms are also available online in PDF format for you to download.

  • by taking the completed form to the 'H&F Direct' office, 1st Floor, Hammersmith Town Hall Extension, King Street, London W6 9JU.

Notice periods

In order to provide reasonable notice to other road users, we need to place signs around the parking bays that are going to be suspended.  To allow us to do this, there are notice periods for suspension requests.  These range from 8 days to 4 weeks.  Please check the guidelines for the notice period that applies to your request.

Amendments and Cancellations

With effect from 01/01/11, there is a fee of £35 for each amendment or cancellation to an existing parking suspension. Amendments and cancellations to existing parking suspensions will not be processed until this fee is paid.

Filming

Film companies should contact the Filming Office before applying for a suspension. Tel: (020) 8753 2171.

Utility Companies

Utility Companies should apply for suspensions using the Utility Company application form. Contractors working on behalf of a Utility Company should contact their Traffic Management Officer to request a suspension. Different charge structures apply to Utility applications; these are explained on the form.

Notes

We will not automatically agree to a parking suspension. Applications must be for a specific date and purpose.

We will not authorise a suspension for a removal where the time is to be spent packing boxes, or a suspension for long term parking for building work.

There may also be times where a location has already been suspended by another person, or the location is unsuitable for a suspension.

If there is a problem with your application we will contact you to discuss it. If the application is agreed, we will send you a receipt which also tells you the location of the suspension.

Further notes (and terms and conditions of the suspension) are printed on the application form. Please read these carefully before signing and returning the form.
