H&F home prices soar by 19.5%

Update 07/03/07

It is a natural aspiration to want to own your own home, but many hardworking families, nurses and teachers are priced out of the market. House prices across London are once again rocketing according to figures released this month by Hometrack. The price of the average home in Hammersmith and Fulham has shot up to almost 19.5%, the fourth highest rise in the capital. The average borough property now costs a whopping £391,100, pushing home ownership far beyond the reach of first time buyers on low or middle incomes.

It is these people our new Home Buy service has been set up to help. It’s a new kind of estate agency service offering shared ownership schemes where you can buy just a part of a property, adding to your equity share in the future as your circumstances change. You can buy as little as 10 per cent of a new home and build up the percentage that you own over time. Or you could be eligible for help through an interest free loan. It’s the kind of help people are crying out for and we’ve already had more than 3,000 local residents asking for more information.

Council Leader, Cllr Stephen Greenhalgh, says; ”It is wrong that owning your own home is out of reach for so many residents. There will always be people who need low cost homes for rent and we remain committed to helping those people, and those who can afford market prices are well catered for in this borough. But it is the many thousands of people in between whose difficulties have been neglected. H&F Home Buy is designed to give these people a foot up onto the property ladder.”

If you have a combined household income between £19,000 - £60,000 and want to buy your own home you may be eligible. Register your interest in home ownership now, go to the home ownership homepage. Alternatively you can call 0800 1313 424.
