King Street regeneration – shortlist drawn up

by Hammersmith and Fulham Press Office
10/10/2007

The reinvigoration of Hammersmith town centre took another major step today with the announcement of the shortlist of development partners.

The removal of the ugly town hall extension and the creation of a piazza are central to this project. Seven outline proposals were received and four bidders have been asked to work up their proposals for submission in November.

Once they have been received, residents will be invited to a public exhibition at Hammersmith Town Hall towards the end of November for local people to comment. Town Hall Extension

Cllr Mark Loveday, H&F Cabinet Member for Strategy, says, “This is another step in a lengthy process. This is a vital project for Hammersmith, but it must be of the highest quality. Too many of these schemes in the past look tired almost before they are completed. I want to make sure this is a scheme the area can be proud of.”

Each of the developers was evaluated for quality, value for money and deliverability. At the next stage the developers, with their architects and landscape designers, will be required to show their vision for the site alongside other criteria.

The four developers who have been invited to submit a comprehensive final tender are:

Galliford Try plc
Grainger plc / Helical Bar plc
St James's Investments ltd
Stanhope plc

Cllr Loveday concludes, “It is still early days in this process and at every stage I will ensure that everybody affected is consulted and treated decently. The exhibition in late November will be a fantastic opportunity for residents to have their say on the four possible options.”
