Pupils from Fulham Cross Girls School have been given some important lessons in personal safety from their local police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).
Officers from Munster ward SNT, assisted by local youth Sergeant Gordon Barlow visited the school and demonstrated the knife screening device commonly seen at local underground stations. They also involved pupils in some role play to highlight the use of stop and search powers.
Sergeant Dave Turtle, a member of the Munster ward SNT said: "This was a marvellous opportunity to raise awareness of personal safety issues with the pupils and to encourage them to report incidents involving knives and to feel safer in their respective communities."
Cllr Greg Smith, cabinet member for crime and anti-social behaviour, said: “This is exactly the kind of initiative that is needed to educate our young people about the dangers of possessing weapons and carrying out acts of anti-social behaviour. I would like to congratulate Munster ward SNT for their proactive approach and look forward to working closely with the police on similar schemes over the coming months and years.”
