Council strikes – Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July
by Hammersmith and Fulham Press Office
16/07/2008
Council services affected on Thursday 17 July:
318 members of Unison and Unite/T&G walked out yesterday in a national dispute over pay, after union leaders gave industrial action the go-ahead. A similar number of council staff are on strike today. Some council services are affected, after union members rejected the government’s 2.45 per cent pay increase offer.
Cllr Stephen Greenhalgh, H&F Council Leader, said: "We have tried and tested contingency plans in place to ensure that vital services run as smoothly as possible."
H&F Chief Executive, Geoff Alltimes, said: "The fact is the claim by the unions is simply unaffordable and strike action will not change this. Withdrawing services to residents in pursuit of an unrealistic pay claim will not help resolve this dispute. We will do everything possible to minimise disruption to residents.”
