Earn your park some extra money

Visitors to the many beautiful parks in the borough are to be given a once-in-a-lifetime chance to earn their favourite green space some extra cash.

New Mayor of London, Boris Johnson has earmarked £6 million to improve London’s green spaces and residents will have the final say on which parks will benefit by voting online over the next few months.

The ‘Priority Parks’ funding will help regenerate the most deserving of London’s green spaces across the capital over the next four years, providing a boost to local communities and making neighbourhoods safer.

Cllr Paul Bristow, cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “This is a wonderful chance for parks visitors to have their say. I’d urge all residents who enjoy our fantastic parks to vote online and maybe win some extra money for their park. We are ploughing millions of pounds into our parks and open spaces through our ParkLife programme but every little helps and if we can get some extra funding it really would be excellent.”

Mayor Johnson said: “This will have a host of benefits, not only making these areas more pleasant places to spend time, but also helping to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. Often simple improvements, such as more bins, more entrances, increased lighting and litterbins, can help local people re-claim their local parks and gardens.”

The voting lines will open later this month and people interested in voting are advised to visit www.london.gov.uk over the coming weeks for more details. Your next edition of H&F News will also provide details of voting arrangements.
