Become a friend of your local park

by Hammersmith and Fulham Press Office

If you are interested in making a difference to a park in the borough then why not join or help establish a ‘Friends of Park’ group?

‘Friends of’ groups are springing up all over the country and enable local residents to sustain and enhance their park as a place of natural beauty and public pleasure in partnership with local authorities.

In this borough alone, there are already ‘Friends of’ groups at Bishops Park, Wormwood Scrubs, Margravine Cemetery and Normand Park as well as other interest groups for other open spaces including South Park and Brook Green to name a few.

Cllr Paul Bristow, cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “We have some truly beautiful parks here in Hammersmith & Fulham and we are always keen to hear from residents who are interested in protecting them. ‘Friends of’ groups are an ideal way for residents to help us make our parks and open spaces even more wonderful to visit than they currently are.”

The council believes that parks users are best placed to determine the future of their park so now is the time to join a ‘Friends of’ group and have your say.

The council is particularly keen to establish new ‘Friends Group’ at Wormholt Park, Ravenscourt Park, Hammersmith Park, Hurlingham Park, Lillie Road Rec, Furnivall Gardens and Eel brook Common.

Cllr Bristow added: “Our ParkLife campaign has showed residents just how passionate we are about parks. Now is the time to show your support and join your local Friends of Park group.”
