Up to 2,000 children, parents, carers and play workers will converge on Ravenscourt Park on Wednesday August 6 for Hammersmith and Fulham’s annual Play Day event.

Play Day at Ravenscourt Park photoThis summer’s festival will be one of the UK’s biggest single celebrations of national Play Day, which this year marks its 21st anniversary.

Organised by the council’s residents’ services department, it will feature fun and games for people of all ages, with the theme for 2008 being ‘give us a go.’

Cllr Paul Bristow, cabinet member for residents' services, said: "This year's Play Day promises to be bigger and better than ever before and I urge as many people as possible to get down to Ravenscourt Park on Wednesday August 6. Now that our ParkLife campaign is in full swing residents should make the most of the good weather and enjoy the great outdoors here in H&F."

This year’s Play Day festivities will include a ‘wild west’ inflatable, crazy golf, water rockets, martial arts, music workshops and story telling.

There will also be an ‘H&F’s got talent’ show on the main stage, opportunities for learn judo and Boccia and face painting.

And if that is not enough, stalls will be on site offering information on childcare, recycling and road safety.

Cllr Bristow, added: “Ravenscourt Park really is a fabulous venue for one of the country’s biggest and best national Play Day events. We have worked hard to ensure that our parks have a packed programme of cultural and sporting events throughout the year so get off the sofa and take in some of the wonderful ParkLife that Hammersmith & Fulham has to offer.”

Families are invited to bring a picnic, and also reminded to bring their sun cream and hats.

Play Day involves more than 100,000 children taking part in hundreds of activities throughout the UK, from big public events to small gatherings. It is co-ordinated by two charities, the Children’s Society and the Children’s Play Council.
