Businesses on Askew Road in Shepherds Bush have been boosted by the news that the council has appointed an Askew Road champion. But who is this person and what will he be doing?
Orin Miller has been chosen by the council to champion the needs of all small and medium sized businesses on Askew Road and reinvigorate the area as a whole.
“We’ve spoken to businesses on Askew Road and we know what improvements they would like to see. They want good transport links, good access to customers and affordable premises,” said Orin. “I’m going to pull out all the stops to make that happen. I’m going to assist small businesses in maximising their strengths and benefits whilst addressing, where possible, their concerns.”
Orin, who is also the council’s principal regeneration officer, has been working for H&F for 19 years. He has already drawn up an action plan to reinvigorate Askew Road and top of his agenda will be improving the parking situation.
Orin said: “We want to make it easier for people to park on Askew Road. We are looking at installing additional short term bays to encourage people to ‘stop and shop’. We are also going to review the maximum length of stay, currently one hour, as we aim to improve turnover and the opportunity to find a vacant parking space. Our research tells us that this will have a positive impact on Askew Road businesses.”
Also in the pipeline is a campaign to increase the uptake of business support services provided by the Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) the council’s in-house business support service.
Unnecessary street furniture and clutter will also be removed and the council’s Safer Communities team will be working to combat crime and close crack houses.
