The power of technology has once again been embraced by Hammersmith and Fulham with the council promoting its ParkLife campaign on its very own YouTube channel.
In another measure to keep communication costs down while reaching a far greater audience, the council has posted the three minute video highlighting improvements being made to the borough’s parks. The video features the band ‘Welcome to Winchester’ with a cover version of Blur’s song ‘Park Life’. The band kindly only charged the council expenses for their services.
The council’s ParkLife campaign is now well under way and sees the council improving the quality of life for all people who live, work and play in Hammersmith and Fulham by providing award winning parks and open spaces that are clean, green, safe and sustainable.
Cllr Paul Bristow, Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services, said: “We want to engage with as many people as possible on our exciting plans for parks and open spaces in the borough and You Tube provides us with the most cost-effective way of doing that. There are so many things going on in our parks during the summer and there really has never been a better time to get out and enjoy some of the wonderful ParkLife Hammersmith & Fulham has to offer.”
There are many exciting plans for parks in the borough this summer. South Park, Shepherds Bush Green, Bishops Park and Ravenscourt Park will all undergo major improvements and the council has teamed up with the North Fulham NDC to rejuvenate Normand Park. There are also numerous activities planned, such as the International Youth Circus Festival at Ravenscourt Park, taking place from 8 to 19 July. Also in the pipeline is a family activities day at the Linford Christie Stadium which has been organised in celebration of the centenary of the 1908 White City Olympics.
Cllr Bristow added: “Using YouTube is about reaching a new audience, an audience that is traditionally hard to reach. This is yet another example of us thinking innovatively at ways of communicating with residents at next to nothing cost.”
