'Keep our parks clean' is the message from the borough's parks constabulary as picnic season approaches.
Every summer, thousands of people make the most of the wonderful parks and open spaces in Hammersmith & Fulham by enjoying picnics. But all too they end up leaving their mess behind.
Litterbugs are now being warned that they will be fined £75 if they are caught dropping litter in parks, or anywhere else in the borough. With this season's ParkLife campaign well underway, there has never been a better time to enjoy the borough's parks and open spaces but the council is determined to keep them clean and tidy for all who visit.
Cllr Greg Smith, Cabinet Member for Anti-Social Behaviour, said: "It costs the council millions of pounds every year to clean up litter and we believe that those who drop it there in the first place should pay their fair share. Dropping litter in Hammersmith & Fulham will simply not be tolerated .
"We want people to enjoy our parks and we hope as many people as possible enjoy picnics this summer. But take your litter home with you or put it in the bin. Our parks are not a giant dumping ground and the sooner people realise that the better."
