Job seekers offered the chance to land a role at the Westfield shopping centre

Fashion giant Debenhams is inviting thousands of local residents to their job fair at Hammersmith Town Hall on Saturday, June 7, from 10am-4pm

Debenhams are looking to recruit a whole new team to run its impressive 144,00sq ft store which opens at Westfield in October this year.

Positions will include both fulltime, part-time and evening positions at the retail giant.

Job-seekers will be asked to fill out application forms and take part in a short interview.

Debenhams chief executive Rob Templeman said: “Westfield London will be one of our flagship stores in the country and will introduce our full line to west London. With an estimated 20million people visiting the centre each year, this is a key store and we look forward to having it ready for opening in October.”

But if your interviewing skills aren’t up to speed – have no fear.

Hammersmith Town Hall to host two events to help get residents ready to work

For those who need a little help in the right direction in landing a Debenhams job, your Hammersmith & Fulham Council is holding two pre-job fair events on Wednesday, June 4, from 10am-3pm, and again on Thursday, June 5, from 10am-3pm, at Hammersmith Town Hall, to offer tips and advice.

The two pre-job fair sessions will include an introduction to careers in the retail industry, how to create a good first impression and how to ‘sell’ yourself in less than five minutes.

If you want to book a place at one of the training sessions, email Carolyn Chapman on: carolyn.chapman-lees@lbhf.gov.uk or call 020 8753 3821.

HOW DO I LOOK?

IN April, your h&f news reported that Debenhams had snapped up the final corner of the Westfield shopping centre. It joins Next, House of Fraser and Marks and Spencer, who are now busy building at the site. The 144,000 sq ft Debenhams is at the south west corner of the scheme in Wood Lane and will trade over four floors. It will house the firm’s extensive range of fashion and homewares as well as collections from signature designers such as Jasper Conran.

The closest Debenhams to the borough at the moment is in Oxford Street.

Michael Gutman, managing director for Westfield UK & Europe, said: “We are delighted that Debenhams are anchoring Westfield.”
