Junkies booted out
Residents of the White City Estate will be able to live in peace after two tenants, who were using their H&F Homes properties as crack dens, were kicked out for good in a zero-tolerance blitz on drug users.
Occupants of Ellenborough House and Carteret House had to put up with junkies urinating in stairwells and disposing their used needles in corridors on an almost daily basis.
But in stepped the council, and in a joint operation with H&F Homes (Hammersmith North Housing Office) and the police, peace has now been restored to the neighbourhood.
Cllr Greg Smith, Cabinet Member for Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour said: "There is no place in society for drug users and the evil delinquents who peddle them. Drugs cause indescribable damage to anyone who is unfortunate enough to fall into their path and we will continue to hound dealers into submission. We will do everything we can to eradicate smackheads from Hammersmith & Fulham."
The Ellenborough House crack den was closed at the end of last year. A Crack House Closure Order was granted by the court, which prevented any person from entering or living in the property for three months. H&F Homes and the council has now been granted possession of the property and the tenant has been evicted.
The Carteret House property was raided in January 2008 and a similar order was granted by the court. This tenant has now also been evicted by the council and H&F Homes.
Cllr Smith added: "Let this be a warning to those foolish enough to think that they can get away with selling junk in Hammersmith & Fulham. You will pay for your downright stupid actions and we will throw the book at you. You could end up homeless and you will have no one to blame but yourself. Scrap the crack and build yourself a life to be proud of."
Hammersmith & Fulham has a zero tolerance approach to any kind of anti social behaviour and is determined to dissolve crack houses and the associated problems they cause to majority of residents in the borough. It is with the help and support of the residents who provide the information needed to close these properties, that the council and its partners is able to put a stop to anti-social behaviour in Hammersmith & Fulham.
