London gets ready for elections

Residents of the borough are encouraged to make sure their voices are heard when the capital heads to the ballot box next month.

On Thursday 1 May, Londoners get their chance to elect a Mayor of London and 25 other members of the London Assembly.

The London Assembly is a watchdog for London and can directly question the Mayor at Assembly meetings. Of its 25 members, 11 represent the whole of the capital and 14 are elected to represent constituencies which are made up of two to four boroughs.

H&F is in the West Central constituency, which also covers Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster. 1 May will see residents of the borough given the chance to vote for the Mayor, a constituency assembly member and a London-wide assembly member.

Chief Executive of the council and local Returning Officer Geoff Alltimes, said: "I hope as many residents as possible take the time to vote on Thursday May 1. These elections only occur every four years so it is vital your voice is heard."

Electors in the Sands End ward will also be able to elect one councillor in a by-election.

Official poll cards will be delivered between 24 and 27 April (the weekend before polling day). If you want to check where your polling station is log onto www.maps.lbhf.gov.uk/polling_station/search.asp
