Musical fun at primary school
Pupils at Kenmont Primary School were given a musical treat when a Swedish wind band paid them a visit last week (Tuesday 4 March).
The Backablas wind band comprised 25 students aged 13 to 18 and played a variety of musical pieces including Star Wars, Abba, Pirates of the Caribbean and a James Bond medley.
The band performed a 45 minute concert for pupils in years one to six at the school in College Park and a 20 minute session for children in the nursery and reception class. Instruments used by the band included flutes, clarinets, French horns, trumpets, trombones, saxaphones, and drums.
Headteacher, Emma Laikin said: "All the pupils really enjoyed the visit from the Backablas wind band and I know that many of them are keen to learn instruments as a result of the visit. It was a real privilege to have the band visit our school."
Le’sha, a year four pupil at the school said: "It was cool. I like different types of music. I like the Swedish way."
Year three pupil Kasey added: "I liked the music. It was good. I liked the James Bond song and the wind instruments."
Cllr Antony Lillis, Cabinet Member for Community and Children’s Services, said: "This sounds like a wonderful day for the pupils at Kenmont Primary School. We all know how powerful music can be as a learning tool and I’m sure that the visit will have a lasting effect on the children."
