A Fulham off-licence has failed in its bid to sell alcohol 24 hours a day after its application was thrown out by Hammersmith and Fulham Council.
Fulham Food and Wine, based at 179 Munster Road, SW6, already serves booze to customers until 11pm on Mondays to Saturdays and until 10.30pm on Sundays.
But at a hearing of the council’s licensing committee it was decided not to grant the off-license a round-the-clock licence.
The council ruled that the applicant failed to address the four licensing objectives of preventing crime and disorder, preventing a public nuisance, protecting public safety and preventing harm to children.
Cllr Greg Smith, Cabinet Member for Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, said: “We do not want our streets to be frequented by drunkards and have a duty to defend the rights of residents. I am pleased that the licensing committee threw out this application as the council does not encourage round-the-clock drinking. We all know that excessive drinking leads to crime and we have a duty to keep the streets of this borough safe.”
The council's pollution team and the police also opposed the application as did a number of residents.
