State-of-the-art new solar panels are being installed on the roof at Hammersmith Town Hall as the council reaffirms its commitment to going green.

The installation consists of 84 solar photovoltaic panels arranged in two arrays.

The panels have cost £83,000, with half of that money coming through a grant from the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

Cllr Nick Botterill, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “The council is committed to doing everything it possibly can to help improve our energy efficiency and the environment generally. Protecting the environment is one of the major issues of this age and every little effort helps.”

It is expected that the installation will be fully operational by the end of February and a display panel will be on show in the Town Hall reception where people will be able to see how much electricity the panels are generating.
