Baroness Delyth Morgan, children’s minister, visited a Hammersmith children’s home on Friday January 23 to see the good work that is being carried out in the borough.
Baroness Morgan was shown around the purpose-built centre on Dalling Road by Councillor Antony Lillis, Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s cabinet member for community and children’s services.
The home provides a long-term safe and caring environment for ten children, aged between 11 and 17, who have had a tough start in life, and was recently chosen to take part in a pilot pedagogy scheme for the Department for Children, Schools and Families. The European-style social pedagogy approach brings together theory, practice and training to support a child’s overall development.
Cllr Lillis said: “We are thrilled that Dalling Road has been chosen for this pilot scheme, as our staff have already been developing new ways of looking after the children, working closely with Danish pedagogy students who have completed placements here.
“Baroness Morgan was very interested in the home and our work here. Despite having faced difficulties at such a young age, these children, with the encouragement of dedicated staff, are becoming independent and well-rounded individuals, who can see a brighter future ahead.”
