More than three hundred of the borough's older residents enjoyed turkey with all the trimmings at Hammersmith
The council's events team has been organising a special Christmas Daylunch at the town hall for over twenty years, offering people who haveno family living nearby a place to come together for food, Christmas presents, a raffle and entertainment.
Thanks to generous support from many local businesses, nearly 100 volunteers and the council, guests were picked up from their homes and taken straight to the town hall.
Amongst the happy guests who attended were Leslie Mayor, of Stevenage Road, Fulham. He said: "I had an absolutely fantastic day and nothing was too much trouble for the kind volunteers. I just can't find fault
with any part of the day. The food was lovely and the entertainment was wonderful. It was very well organised and I hope to go again next year."
Glenda Jackson of Invermead Close, Hammersmith was another happy customer. She said: "The day was out of this world. The food was superb and the service was excellent. Everybody was so kind and helpful and I am ever so grateful to the wonderful people who gave up their Christmas Days to help at the Town Hall."
And as a special treat for the pensioners, Leader of the Council, Stephen Greenhalgh was on hand to serve food.
He said: "The Pensioners' Christmas Day lunch at the Town Hall really is one of the highlights of the year for me and this year was no exception. The event sums up what Christmas should be all about - helping those who need help. I would like to extend my thanks to all those who volunteer on Christmas Day. Without their help it would
simply just not happen. The council's events team also deserve a special thanks for giving up their time and making this wonderful day the success that it is. It was fantastic to see so many happy faces and it really was a thrill to attend."
Following lunch, the pensioners enjoyed music and entertainment before being taken back to their homes with a goodie bag of presents handed out by Father Christmas that had been kindly donated by the borough's
businesses and council employees.
