The council has received a glowing report from Ofsted for the services it provides for children and young people.

Each of seven areas judged by the government organisation in its annual performance assessment was deemed to be either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’, with Ofsted stating that the council is ‘highly ambitious and works effectively with key partners to secure improvements for children and young people, including vulnerable groups.’

The council was given top marks in the ‘being healthy’ category. Ofsted said that ‘good collaborative work between health and children’s services has led to very good outcomes such as a significant reduction in the teenage pregnancy rate and a continued decrease in the infant mortality rate.’

Cllr Antony Lillis, cabinet member for community and children's services, said: "This is excellent news. The findings of this report are very positive and show that we are providing top class services for children and young people. We will be working to improve even further over the coming months and years so that we can continue to give all children and young people in the borough the best possible start in life.”

The report also stated that although the council provides first-class care for young people, mechanisms are in place to ensure that the service will continue to improve over the coming years. It also noted that H&F ‘continues to make a good contribution to improving outcomes for children and young people.’

In addition, Ofsted said that the council enables young people to achieve economic well-being and that children enjoy attending school and achieve excellent examination results.
