Shoppers and visitors to Askew Road will now pay just 20 pence to park for half an hour.
Traders have welcomed the news that short stay parking charges on the busy high street are being dramatically reduced by H&F Council.
The cost of parking was slashed this month from £2.40 per hour to just 20p for half an hour following a consultation with local businesses and residents.
Earlier this year the council vowed to improve parking and access in the area to make it easier for shoppers to use local outlets.
Councillor Nicholas Botterill, H&F Council Deputy Leader, said: “We have listened to the people who live and work around Askew Road and we hope that by slashing the cost of short stay parking we will make it easier for residents and visitors to shop in the area.
“Our small businesses are the lifeblood of our local communities and we will support them wherever and whenever we can. During these tough times businesses need every boost they can get.”
The fact that a recent survey showed that shoppers prefer to park for short periods of around half an hour - nipping in and out of the shops - also encouraged the council to reduce short stay parking charges.
Ali Rizwan, from H&T Hardware, said: "It is excellent news. It makes a big difference for people coming in and buying small things."
