Have your say on Westfield parking issues

by Hammersmith and Fulham Press Office
10/12/2008

It is now two months since Westfield London, the largest inner-city shopping centre in Europe opened its doors and while it has brought major benefits to Shepherds Bush, the council recognises that there has been increasing parking pressure on some local streets.

That is exactly why Hammersmith & Fulham Council has acted swiftly to introduce new emergency interim parking controls in the worst affected zones, known as zones G and CC.

And in a special consultation, due to start in January, the council is keen to find out what residents of these two zones think of the current parking situation now that these changes have been made. The council will also be asking for the views of residents and businesses in zones B, C, G, J, K and O and some streets in N (download a pdf map, 210KB) so as to be able to consider whether new controls are necessary in those areas too.

Changes in zones G and CC have seen the current Saturday controls brought in on Sundays and bank holidays, except Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. This means that spaces are now better protected between
9:00am-8:00pm.

In Zone G between 6.30-8.00pm from Monday-Friday and from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:30-8:00pm on Saturday and now Sunday, only permit holders may park and residents' visitors can buy a pay & display ticket and display a residents' visitor permit.

But are these changes working or would you like to see changes in your zone?

Cllr Nick Botterill, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "To date many residents have contacted us already but we are still very keen to hear from residents who live close to Westfield so that we can devise and implement lasting solutions to the problems. We have already fast tracked simple changes in the worst affected streets so they are not as clogged up with Westfield's shoppers and staff and we will consider doing likewise elsewhere if more residents say that are having parking troubles. It is vital that people respond to the consultation so that we can thoroughly analyse the impact Westfield is having on parking across the whole area."

If you have already spoken to the council on this topic we would still appreciate you taking the time to fill in the consultation, which will be delivered to all residents and businesses in early January. However, if you would like to complete the questionnaire now, you can click here to complete it online .

When the consultation has been analysed, the council will write to residents again explaining if further changes are proposed in your area and giving you the opportunity to comment further before any changes are made.
