Get into the Christmas spirit

Right across the borough, people of all ages have been getting into the Christmas spirit!

And with the festive season almost upon us, there really is plenty to do this Yuletide in Hammersmith & Fulham!

If you fancy yourself as the next Jayne Torvill or Christopher Dean then you need to get down to Shepherds Bush Green and practise your moves on the ice rink.

Because throughout Christmas, the Green is hosting a special ice fair, featuring an ice rink for all the family. This year’s rink is bigger and better than even ever before and is made of real ice.

The ice fair also features a carousel, ferris wheel and dodgem cars along with refreshment stalls and food carts offering roasted chestnuts, candy floss and toffee apples. The consumption of alcohol is not permitted.

Cllr Frances Stainton, cabinet member for Culture and Heritage, said: “Last year residents asked us for a bigger rink with real ice so here it is by popular demand! Then you have the rides and the stalls to add to the fun, so I am sure that residents and visitors to the borough will all greatly enjoy themselves at the Fayre this Christmas. The rink really is a great way to make use of Shepherds Bush Green in the run up to Christmas.” The Fayre is opened officially now and runs till Jan 4.

Entrance to the ice fair complex will be £1. Ice skating cost £8 for adults and £6 for children for a one hour session on Monday to Thursday. Skating at the weekend costs £10 for adults and £8 for children. Discounts are available for group bookings.

Skaters are advised to book on the ticket hotline, 0800 409 6757 but tickets can also be purchased from Shepherds Bush Green.

And in Hammersmith & Fulham town centres, Christmas lights are now illuminating the streets.

Cllr Stainton officially opened the Fulham Christmas lights on an action-packed evening featuring Fulham Camerata and a host of other local performers.

Christmas in Hammersmith was officially launched on Wednesday December 3 when HammersmithLondon, an organisation of businesses that club together to fund town centre improvements and events, hosted a Christmas Celebration 'Light Up the Night' event.

This featured an interactive light show in Lyric Square, in-store entertainment around the town centre, a visit by the Mayor of the borough, Cllr Andrew Johnson and lots of giveaways Santa Claus.
