A special event was held in the Mayor’s Parlour at the Town Hall recently (Wednesday 19 November) to celebrate the educational achievement of the borough’s looked after children.
Amongst those who attended were pupils who achieved well in their GCSEs and those who made particular progress in their schooling.
Andrew Christie, Director of Children's Services opened the event and Cllr Antony Lillis, cabinet member for community and children’s services, gave a short speech, congratulating all the young people for their achievement over the past year.
Cllr Lillis, said: “Congratulations to all those who have received awards. They all deserve special praise for doing so well in difficult circumstances. I wish all of our looked after children the very best for the future.”
Nominations for awards were received from class teachers, tutors and social workers. Each young person received a certificate of achievement and an award for their progress. Over 30 children currently at school received awards and the Council supports 35 children at university who used to be looked after.
