Visitors to Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith are sure to be wowed by the newly-restored park gates.
The ornamental gates, which can be found at the entrance to the walled garden, are over 100 years old and have been given a new lease of life thanks to an ironmongery company that used to be based in the park.
The Iron Works, now based in Ealing, stripped back the gates to the bare metal and rebuilt the intricate features. They also installed a new lock and painted the gates in the original black and gold.
The gates have already gone down a treat with visitors to the park and form part of a wider programme to spruce up the park.
Royd Barker, Secretary of the Ravenscourt Society, said: “The restored gates look wonderful. I saw them in the workshop and now that they are back in the park they look very good indeed. The artwork has been done very well and I urge all residents to visit the park and see how marvellous it looks.”
Cllr Paul Bristow, cabinet member for resident’s services, said: “The new gates are a joy to behold and I am thrilled that the council has been able to arrange for them to be restored. The Iron Works derive much praise for their excellent work. Over the past few months, the council’s ParkLife campaign has showed residents how dedicated we are to improving our already wonderful parks. The newly-restored gates are another example of that commitment.”
