Representatives from many of the borough’s major care and support providers attended a special forum at the Town Hall earlier this month (Wednesday October 8) to learn about major changes to social care funding.

The new way of funding, called Individual Budgets, will help service users to be in control of their social care funding.

The system will create choice and opportunity and will allow people to be creative and to spend their money on activities and services that have not until now been associated with social care.

Speaking at the forum was Dr Rob Greig, who wrote the government’s white paper that led to the change in working. Also speaking with cabinet member for community and children’s services, Cllr Antony Lillis and James Reilly, director of community services.

There was also an open discussion before lunch that gave providers a chance to ask questions to the wider group and to the expert panel.
