Four recycling whizzes have won prizes in a local scheme to boost recycling in North Fulham.
The Tag Your Bag competition ran for a month over the summer and called on residents on the Clem Atlee Estate to place a sticker with their contact details in their orange recycling sack. Prizes were donated by local businesses.
Ten-year-old Darren Urban of Tom Williams House won a £20 voucher from Hell Pizza when his bag was picked at random. The Queen Manor Primary pupil said: “My family’s brilliant at recycling and we do it every day. I’m so pleased I’ve won. I love pizza!”
The competition was supported by North Fulham New Deal for Communities, Hammersmith & Fulham Council and H&F Homes.
Jim Ellis, 78, of Michael Stewart House has been using a new recycling chute and won a £20 voucher for clothes shop, Blue Essence, in North End Road.
Leah Graham, 29, of George Lindgren House, was over the moon when she won a pair of designer sunglasses from Specsavers Opticians.
She said: “We’ve been recycling for ages and the new trial at Clem Attlee makes it so easy because the recycling can be dropped in the bring banks at the bottom of the building.”
Award winning restaurant Veggie Vegan 222 donated dinner for two to the Tag Your Bag competition. The prize went to keen recycler Renata Cox, 65, of John Strachey House.
The NDC, with H&F Homes and the council, has been running a recycling trial at the Clem Attlee Estate for five months with four different schemes, each designed to best fit each building. Recycling methods to make it easier for residents to recycle that have been introduced are chute recycling, doorstep collection, mini banks on each floor and bring banks.
