Community groups in Hammersmith and Fulham are in the money after receiving a share of more than £105,000 in grants.
Seventy-four local organisations, charities and voluntary groups have been given a financial boost of between £200 and £5,000 which will help them to continue their valuable work with residents.
The Fast Track scheme is part of a wider community grants project worth £4.2 million over two years, and since it began in October last year, 142 groups have benefited from over £217,000. The latest round of grants brings the total to almost £400,000 shared out between 226 organisations in one year. The cash injection has helped and supported residents’ associations, sports clubs, children’s groups, charities, theatres and many others.
Cabinet member for community and children’s services, Councillor Antony Lillis, said: “We had an amazing number of applications from local groups, all of which thoroughly deserve this money, and we are thrilled that we can pass on our support to over 70 organisations this time around.
“Our Fast Track scheme has already been a great success and I hope that these grants make a difference to many residents in the borough.”
Muraya Elmi from Somali Children’s Advocacy, which works closely with pupils in the borough’s schools, was thrilled with the news that her organisation was one of the big winners for small grants.
“The grant from H&F means a lot to us,” she said. “We help to run after-school classes, and this money will go towards one at Flora Gardens Primary School. We also work with elderly people and run activities for teenagers, such as football coaching sessions, to prevent them from turning to street crime.
