Residents living near the borough’s two Premier League football clubs are being asked what they think about parking on match days.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council is carrying out an initial consultation with residents about introducing match day parking restrictions in ten Fulham controlled parking zones.  The zones – which cover all areas south of Talgarth Road – are near Craven Cottage, home of Fulham FC, and Chelsea’s home ground of Stamford Bridge.

The consultation started yesterday (September 29th) and follows the successful introduction of match day parking schemes in zones X and Y in December last year, covering the south-western corner of Fulham, from the River Thames to Fulham Palace Road. The scheme has deterred fans from driving into the area to park through a pay and display set-up, with a maximum stay of one hour, meaning that residents keep their parking spaces and are not forced out by football supporters.

Councillor Nicholas Botterill, deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, said: “While football is a huge part of this borough and its sporting life, we are committed to putting residents first.  Our parking spaces are first and foremost for them and their visitors, so we want to know if residents would like match day parking controls where they live.

“Changing the specifics of the zones is a project that will take time to complete, so it is important that we know exactly which areas are most affected on match days and why.”

All residents and businesses in the zones will receive an easy-to-answer consultation form which will need to be sent back to the council by Saturday 1st November and from those responses, each zone will then be consulted in more detail before any changes are made.

• The zones being consulted are: T, H, D, W, F, R, S, Z, Q and U.
